Founded in the spring of 2001, the Achordants formed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a mission to entertain and to promote the message of diversity through music. Using tight harmonies and a lighthearted appeal that pleases any audience, the group's diverse repertoire, ranging from gospel to Scottish folksongs, is a reflection of the group members' individuality. In the Spring of 2005, the Achordants became the South Regional Champions at the at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, securing them a spot on the stage of NYC's Lincoln Center. The group, however, never loses sight of its mission statement, and continues to hold a rich tradition of advocating charitable causes. Perhaps most importantly, the Achordants believe that the key to collegiate a cappella is to have fun, and to not take oneself too seriously! |

This is shaping up to be a magnificent semester of a cappella music, so we hope to see you there!
Happily, the 5th Annual 50th Anniversary Comeback etc. concert went off swimmingly! Matt "The King" Mullane has been OFFICIALLY crowned homecoming king for 2005! We don't know how he did it, but we're happy to see one of our own be successful. Congrats Matt!

The Gigs Page is now up to date! Be sure to check out our upcoming performances! Congratulations to Kevin Wenzel, Achordant number 35! We would like to express our thanks to everyone who auditioned this fall semester; the talent pool grows larger and larger with every round of auditions, making each decision tougher than the one before. The Achordants announce: Fall Auditions Once again, Fall Auditions are upon us. If you're interested in auditioning, please visit us in the pit during the first two weeks of school between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. We'll be happy to talk to you about the Achordants, our audition process, a cappella, or life at Carolina in general. If we're not there, the sign-up folder will be in the Student Union, near the drinking fountains on the right as you enter. For more information, visit the Auditions Page. This year is shaping up to be our strongest and most exciting yet, so we're getting pumped! We're back from our New York trip, with plenty of fun had by all. Although we did not place, congratulations are in order for Yuri, who took home the Outstanding Arrangement caption award for Mala Gente! Although the judges didn't smile on the Achordants this time, Alice Tully Hall in the Lincoln Center was a joy to sing in, especially filled to its 1100 person capacity. We all walked off the stage with smiles on our faces for a job well done; we definitely showed people a taste of how we do things here at UNC. Thanks to Hotchkiss for providing space to rehearse, perform, and of course for providing us with Fenty. BIG thanks also to the Zelmans, Haley Swindal, and Brian Fenty for getting us fed, watered, warm at night, and entertained during the day. You guys went FAR beyond the call of duty, and we can't express our gratitude enough! The Achordants will go into the studio yet again on May 11; wish us luck! After long and exhausting deliberations (we took at least 3 nap breaks), we've chosen a new Achordant to add to the ranks. Congratulations to Patrick Massey, Achordant number 34! In other news, we're departing this evening for New York City to compete in the ICCA finals! Wish us luck; we're looking forward to having a great time representing UNC, and the South Region!
